Sprucing Up My Curls with Sprouts Salon

If you wonder why I rock open kinky hair most of the time, wonder no more. Just like any other kid, siting still for more than five minutes can be a daunting task, and unfortunately, getting plaited requires that. So you will understand my excitement when I discovered Sprouts, a salon that can keep me distracted long enough to spend an hour plus without getting cranky.

I spotted the salon while strolling around Valley Arcade mall with my folks, something we love to do, and one look at it, we knew we had struck gold, or oil in Kenya’s case! A kids’ salon that caters to adults as well, well done guys! You will agree with me when I say that most salons around town have everything focused on adults, from the design, to the products and hair dressers. Children are therefore an afterthought, which makes them quite uncomfortable and stifled, not helping us to be in our element at all. At Sprouts, the interior design was carefully thought through, giving a sense of a kiddie zone without it being overwhelming for the adults. An artificial wall of tall mirrors splits the salon into two, the wash area for both the kids and adults which extends into the adults’ section and the kids’ area whose mirrors and shelves are fancy and colorful with a backdrop of cartoons.
Above all, the fact that mummy and I could spend some grand time having our hairs done was just the icing on the cake for me.
The place also hosts a barbershop which ensures that fathers and their sons get to catch up over a haircut (we see you busy corporate dads), or in my case, those hands on dads who will do anything for their daughters including sitting in the salon with them, can also get a haircut while at it. Which makes me think I should do another post on Daddy and Daughter moments at the salon, next time. What do you guys think?
Now let’s get down to my hair care routine which clearly shows how cantu brings out the c in curls! Normally, I wash my hair three times a week with cantu care for kids nourishing shampoo and after dabbing it with a towel, I apply cantu care for kids curling cream. On the days when I don’t wash it, I simply moisten it with water and apply the curling cream.
Once in a week, mainly on Fridays after school or Saturday morning, I wash my hair with the nourishing shampoo and apply cantu shea butter for natural hair deep treatment masque which I let sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing off. This is the same procedure that was followed on the day of the shoot. Below is my before photo, where basically, my hair had not been washed or had anything applied on it for two days, in preparation for this shoot.
If I need my curls enhanced, while still moist, I apply the cantu shea butter for natural hair define and shine custard, like my hairdresser Judy did for this shoot, and this were the results.
To the millions of readers who have been requesting for a hair post for the longest time, I hope it was worth the wait! Let me know what you think and of course I’ll be happy to answer any queries, so let’s meet in the comments section below. Also, sharing is caring, so please share the post as wide as you can!

Unfortunately I don’t know whether they do because I never found the need to use one on my three year old daughter. You can check their website to see their range of prodicts. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Thank you Agather for always being here, silently. Glad that you loved the feature and please do share a photo of your daughter rocking the curls.

I definitely will, if you dont mind, where do we get these hair products? Am in mombasa though.
Hey Agather, sorry for the late response. I get the products from Nairobi, Supercosmetics and Beauty Wholesale on Mama Ngina Street. However, I am informed that Nakumatt also stocks them though I am not sure. Try checking out the Nakumatts in Mombasa you might be lucky.
Aiii Joy I thought we’ve had enough random hair cutting sessions :(……anyway, we still have Xena’s awesome curls.
They should have that toy car in adult size. I know a couple of people who would second me on that. Hehee.
You know with your tiny frame Bree you can comfortably fit in that toy car! Make a date with me and i will take you to Sprouts.
I second that car in a grown size. Even better if it’s just in a size for a 5’2ft individual

The salon looks so beautiful can’t wait to try out the products and the salon for my natural kinky hair…
Mum what do you use for your hairline (care routine)???
Hello Jay, natural hair is the way to go, so easy to maintain and the fact that you can wash it whenever you feel like, amazing. I am tempted to cut mine and start all over again! As for my hair, i use Silicon Mix products and Tony Airo’s Siri. Thanks for reading dear 🙂 Joy.
True that.. I enjoy mine. so stress free (only the tangle that I could do without)
Cut your hair???? NOoooo!! Don’t do it, please don’t do it. It is healthy hair. No need for cutting.
Hehhehehe 🙂 Ok i’ll keep it for another year 🙂
