Day 1: His & Hers Scents
The year was 2012. It was a random Saturday afternoon and I was hanging out at my then boyfriend’s place. We were sprawled on the couch, watching the movie Pearl Harbour. About ten minutes into the movie, this guy wowed me with a skill that made me think he was a god.
“Do you want some popcorn?” He asked.
“Sure.” I said.
He then disappeared into the kitchen, after which I heard some sort of mini explosives going off for about a minute and he was back with a bowl of hot popcorn. I was so confused I couldn’t hide it. He saw the baffled look on my face and asked if I was ok.
“Obviously, you did not buy the popcorn given that it’s hot.” I said to him.
“I made it just now.” He said.
“You mean it is possible to make popcorn at home?” I asked
I don’t know how he carried on dating me because if the roles were reversed, I would not have wanted to be associated with that level of ignorance!
This wizard lived with his two younger siblings, one of them a girl who was so strong-headed and a go getter. I admired her industriousness and fearlessness (still do) which was demonstrated by the fact that she took up jobs in hardship areas (still does) and always had a side hustle or two at any given time.
On one occasion, he asked me to pick something from his sister’s closet. I can’t remember what he needed, but what I remember is spotting something that changed my life. Standing tall in the corner of a white shelve was this resplendent tube of lotion. It struck me as unique because the only lotions I was used to were Zoe and when I could afford it, Nivea, both whose packaging were as uninspiring as the contents. Being the snoop curious mind that I am, I picked it up and flipped the cover. I pressed the tube to reveal this thick luscious cream which I scooped with my index finger and placed underneath my nose. It smelled like something that should have been on a dessert plate and not confined in a tube.
From that moment, I knew that I wanted to smell like I just stepped out of a candy factory, or like spring even in the hot summer. To get the products, I would bug my friends who were travelling abroad to bring me a few tubs of lotions, shower gels and body mists. When I ran out of people to send, I figured I could ship them in bulk and that is how my first ever side hustle was born. However, after about two years, it died a natural death but I had enough product to last me a whole year.
It has been almost five years since I first used Bath & Body Works body care products. Yet, every time I lay my hands on something new from their many lines, it always feels like I have struck gold. When it comes to novelty, their products take the cup, hands down. Thankfully, I am no longer at the mercy of travelling friends because His & Hers Scents have my back. They are a local supplier of Bath & Body Works products and I love that they keep me updated with the latest releases. Turns out that it’s not just Apps and software updates that I need to keep up with!
My latest obsession is the new Aromatherapy range (pictured below) that includes a body wash & foam bath, body scrub, body lotion and body cream. There are six fragrances in this range: Happiness, Recharge, Energy, Comfort, Stress Relief and Focus. When I was introduced to them, I went straight for Comfort because it contains vanilla, a scent which I love for its ability to seduce while remaining subtle. I also love that my kids can get to enjoy a bubble bath once in a while as this particular fragrance is not too strong. They had so much fun blowing bubbles and splashing water all over each other, it was such a mission getting them out of the bath tub. I promise you that you will never feel the need to pay for an expensive spa session with these products at home!
Because it is the festive season and we all love to give gifts as well as receive them, I have teamed up with His & Her Scents to give you (my readers) a 40% discount on their products during the duration of this campaign i.e. from today to 23rd of Dec. This means that for the new range currently priced at Ksh 1700 per product, you will be able to buy them at Ksh 1,000! This only applies to orders placed on their Instagram and Facebook pages, as well as via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone call (0707495067).
